Jazz. Muri\u00adel Gross\u00admann has recent\u00adly published, along with the Esto\u00adni\u00adan record label RR<\/span> Gems Records, a dou\u00adble vinyl ver\u00adsi\u00adon of her latest album \u2018GOLDEN<\/span> RULE<\/span>\u2019. A limi\u00adt\u00aded edi\u00adti\u00adon of 400 copies has been pro\u00addu\u00adced, that can be purcha\u00adsed on the inter\u00adnet and dif\u00adfe\u00adrent stores, and the album can also be found in digi\u00adtal for\u00admat on dif\u00adfe\u00adrent inter\u00adnet stores and \u201astrea\u00adming\u2019 portals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Did this record come out first on CD<\/span>? Tell me a bit how it was? When did you record it?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you for giving me the oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty to express mys\u00adelf here, for the Dia\u00adrio de Ibiza.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recor\u00adding of the \u2018Gol\u00adden Rule\u2019 album has been made in 2017 in Ibi\u00adza during the sea\u00adson, and throug\u00adhout the autumn and win\u00adter we have cho\u00adsen the takes for the edi\u00adti\u00adon and recor\u00added the addi\u00adtio\u00adnal instru\u00adments, which color the songs in a har\u00admo\u00adnic back\u00adground, what we call drones.<\/span><\/p>\n

The band was real\u00adly play\u00ading strong, we just came from the tour, so it was the right moment to get into the stu\u00addio and record. I had all the com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons rea\u00addy, and some of them we had alre\u00ada\u00addy play\u00aded live, so they came natu\u00adral\u00adly. The music was just flowing effort\u00adless\u00adly. We were all focu\u00adsed and deter\u00admi\u00adned to make a powerful state\u00adment and car\u00adry out the third album of this band; it star\u00adted by Natu\u00adral Time (2016), then Momen\u00adtum (2017) and now Gol\u00adden Rule (2018) in the com\u00adpa\u00adny of Rado\u00admir Milo\u00adj\u00adko\u00advic (with whom I work sin\u00adce 2002 tog\u00ade\u00adther) on the gui\u00adtar, Gina Schwarz from Aus\u00adtria as bas\u00adsist and Uros Sta\u00admen\u00adko\u00advic from Ser\u00adbia at the drums.<\/span><\/p>\n

What I\u2019ll tell you now, sounds like fic\u00adtion to me (;-) but nevert\u00adhel\u00adess was real. Hen\u00adry L. Sar\u00admi\u00aden\u00adto II<\/span>, a mas\u00adter of sound, with a won\u00adderful music stu\u00addio \u2018Sonic Vis\u00adta Stu\u00addi\u00ados\u2019 in Es Cubells, has been say\u00ading for many years: \u201copen an Insta\u00adgram account \u2026 it\u2019s very good to con\u00adnect out\u00adside! \u201c\u2026 I never real\u00adly wan\u00adted to do it sin\u00adce it gets you more into the world of the net\u00adwork, but in Novem\u00adber 2017 I final\u00adly ope\u00adned a pro\u00adfi\u00adle by put\u00adting all kinds of musi\u00adcal con\u00adtent of ever\u00ady\u00adthing done to date, and only one month later after regis\u00adtering the account, Valen\u00adtin and Dimi\u00adt\u00adri from RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> Records an Esto\u00adni\u00adan label that is dedi\u00adca\u00adted to sha\u00adring and spre\u00ada\u00adding a word about artists and albums that are not get\u00adting enough atten\u00adti\u00adon and prai\u00adse (https:\/\/www.vinyloftheday.com\/rr-gems-records\/) was offe\u00adring us to bring out a Vinyl from a cur\u00adrent recor\u00adding. And so, in that way we ente\u00adred into a very satis\u00adfac\u00adto\u00adry col\u00adla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon of respect and care, that has resul\u00adted in this beau\u00adtiful 2x12\u201d Gate\u00adfold Vinyl of 180 grams. I\u2019m very hap\u00adpy! We agreed in releasing the CD<\/span> about a month later, so that a momen\u00adtum with the Vinyl could be crea\u00adted and \u2026 that\u2019s how it was!<\/span><\/p>\n

I find it curious that you make an edi\u00adti\u00adon on vinyl. Why on vinyl? How many copies have been made on vinyl? You can buy it online, right?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We are real\u00adly very fond of vinyls. My father had more than 500 vinyls of clas\u00adsi\u00adcal music at home and also Rado\u00admir and Uros have their coll\u00adec\u00adtion. We have always wan\u00adted to get our music out on this for\u00admat, sin\u00adce it real\u00adly reflects the qua\u00adli\u00adties of our music in a very pre\u00adcise way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lis\u00adtening to music on Vinyl enters you into a much deeper lis\u00adtening. This I have been able to under\u00adstand now, but it has been some\u00adthing, that I have always wan\u00adted to do, becau\u00adse I have always had the fee\u00adling that the Vinyl does jus\u00adti\u00adce to music. I do not want to say that other for\u00admats do not do that, but Vinyl gives all the sen\u00adse to the music that we play, and it is just now, that we have been for\u00adt\u00adu\u00adna\u00adte to do it.<\/span><\/p>\n

A limi\u00adt\u00aded edi\u00adti\u00adon of 400 copies was released, which are now on sale on the RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> Records home\u00adpage (https:\/\/www.rrgemsrecords.com), but the label is also dis\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adting all around the world. You can find it in online stores and well-known sites such as Jazz\u00adman Records and Juno Records in the United King\u00addom, HHV<\/span> in Ger\u00adma\u00adny, Dus\u00adty Groo\u00adve Record Store in Chi\u00adca\u00adgo, Funk Night in Detroit, Buch Spie\u00adler Records in Ver\u00admont in the United Sta\u00adtes and in other parts of the world. \u2026 soon I also hope you can get it in Bar\u00adce\u00adlo\u00adna and Madrid.<\/span><\/p>\n

And I see that you have adapt\u00aded the CD<\/span> songs for the vinyl a bit. You have made them a litt\u00adle lon\u00adger. Did you chan\u00adge the com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon, the score or did it improvised?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 7 songs of this album last 80 min and this is the maxi\u00admum dura\u00adti\u00adon of a com\u00adpact disc. The Dou\u00adble Vinyl has 4 sides with the pos\u00adsi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of 20 \u2014 24 min on each one.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song no. 5 \u2018Tran\u00ade\u00ading In\u2019 lasts 14.30 minu\u00adtes on the CD<\/span>, and we were able to make an Intro for it, that can only be heard on Vinyl. For this intro\u00adduc\u00adtion I let mys\u00adelf be gui\u00added by the song its\u00adelf using its dro\u00adnes. The\u00adre is not\u00adhing writ\u00adten. It is like an extra gift for the fans of the qua\u00adli\u00adties of the Vinyl becau\u00adse it is real\u00adly a sound with more nuan\u00adces than a on CD<\/span> or an mp3 of now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why the Gol\u00adden Rule title? What does it mean?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The music of my albums always reflects a the\u00adme in which I have deep\u00adly reflec\u00adted for a long peri\u00adod of time. The Gol\u00adden Rule of which all reli\u00adgious or spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal tra\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons speak of, is unders\u00adtood as the recipro\u00adci\u00adty of a com\u00adpas\u00adsio\u00adna\u00adte atti\u00adtu\u00adde. \u201cDo onto others, what you want them to do onto you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a music gui\u00adde in a won\u00adderful Edu\u00adca\u00adtio\u00adnal Cen\u00adter here in Ibi\u00adza that is lay\u00ading the foun\u00adda\u00adti\u00adons of the new para\u00addigm of edu\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon, it is cal\u00adled Uni\u00adver\u00adsal Man\u00adda\u00adla and its foun\u00adder and Direc\u00adtor is Bel\u00e9n K\u00f6h\u00adler (http:\/\/www.universalmandala.org).<\/span><\/p>\n

This school works on the deep and unli\u00admi\u00adt\u00aded deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of the human being, and in addi\u00adti\u00adon to using a visio\u00adna\u00adry metho\u00addo\u00adlo\u00adgy offers trai\u00adning for tea\u00adchers, par\u00adents and all tho\u00adse inte\u00adres\u00adted in deepe\u00adning in the edu\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon of the future. I am part of this school, and bes\u00adi\u00addes deve\u00adlo\u00adping the music cur\u00adri\u00adcu\u00adlum; I also help with the expan\u00adsi\u00adon of the metho\u00addo\u00adlo\u00adgy and its evolution.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mas\u00adter trai\u00adning with Belen leads you to reflect and to work with the tools that lead to that edu\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon, that real\u00adly favors and poten\u00adtia\u00adtes the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of the human, that we real\u00adly are: wise and com\u00adpas\u00adsio\u00adna\u00adte. And taking this reflec\u00adtion and tools into my dai\u00adly life has logi\u00adcal\u00adly also been reflec\u00adted in my music, and from the\u00adre I have tried, and I try to trans\u00admit ide\u00adas or solu\u00adti\u00adons that I have come across through the\u00adse reflec\u00adtions, and their effects on the day to day. I hope my music can reach as many peo\u00adp\u00adle as pos\u00adsi\u00adble and help many people.<\/span><\/p>\n

I see that they call it modal or \/ and spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal jazz. Do you agree? It is your style?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes I agree.
\n<\/span>It is real\u00adly just \u2018music\u2019 but it has the ele\u00adments of Jazz that I like, such as swing phra\u00adsing and pret\u00adty and simp\u00adle melo\u00addies to sing with. Always influen\u00adced by modal and spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal jazz, and best repre\u00adsen\u00adted on the albums of Miles Davis \u201aKind of Blue\u2019 and John Col\u00adtra\u00adne \u201aA Love Supre\u00adme\u2019 among other gre\u00adat per\u00adfor\u00admers and records. This music speaks the uni\u00adver\u00adsal lan\u00adguage, which tran\u00ads\u00adcends the bor\u00adders of the gen\u00adre. Our music is based on powerful rhyth\u00adms, which are deep\u00adly inter\u00adwo\u00adven in jazz histo\u00adry. The melo\u00addic mate\u00adri\u00adal is based on modes and sca\u00adles, par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar\u00adly on pen\u00adta\u00adto\u00adnic sca\u00adles, which makes it uni\u00adver\u00adsal, becau\u00adse tho\u00adse sca\u00adles can be found in all cor\u00adners of the world, in the music of Afri\u00adca, Chi\u00adna, Japan, Ame\u00adri\u00adca, Euro\u00adpe, etc. The har\u00admo\u00adnic bases are not limi\u00adt\u00aded by chords and pat\u00adterns, but are born of the modes and the sca\u00adles, which gives the musi\u00adci\u00adans a crea\u00adti\u00adve resour\u00adce and the free\u00addom to super\u00adim\u00adpo\u00adse and find the right thing for the music that is played.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Also, they rela\u00adte your music a lot with John Col\u00adtra\u00adne. Do you agree? What other refe\u00adren\u00adces do you have?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

John Col\u00adtra\u00adne has influen\u00adced all Jazz musi\u00adci\u00adans. His sen\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adve tone, pas\u00adsio\u00adna\u00adte, pure and far-rea\u00adching. His hymn-like com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons, his choice of musi\u00adci\u00adans has been what fasci\u00adna\u00adted me the most. Lis\u00adtening to it has reso\u00adna\u00adted a lot with my being. It see\u00admed to me a mas\u00adterful, ener\u00adge\u00adtic and medi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adve music at the same time. I am also fasci\u00adna\u00adted with the pos\u00adsi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of deve\u00adlo\u00adping my own voice in long but ener\u00adge\u00adtic songs. This ener\u00adgy comes from within me and I see mys\u00adelf reso\u00adna\u00adting with his music, but in my own way.<\/span><\/p>\n

John Col\u00adtra\u00adne has always been and is a gre\u00adat influence. His work is impres\u00adsi\u00adve, so many chan\u00adges in such a short time. Each peri\u00adod of his music is very important and influ\u00aden\u00adti\u00adal. It has spe\u00adci\u00adfic brands that always search in the past and in the future, but always firm\u00adly roo\u00adted in the moment. Dis\u00adco\u00adve\u00adring, stu\u00addy\u00ading and rese\u00adar\u00adching John Col\u00adtra\u00adne and his music is a lifel\u00adong expe\u00adri\u00adence that requi\u00adres love, time and dedi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon. John Col\u00adtra\u00adne was one of the most pas\u00adsio\u00adna\u00adte and beau\u00adtiful figu\u00adres in the histo\u00adry of jazz, his music means a lot to me and I owe him a lot. Gol\u00adden Rule is one of the ways to thank him, but not the only one, sin\u00adce all my records have some\u00adthing to do with the spi\u00adrit of John Coltrane.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am also fasci\u00adna\u00adted by Ali\u00adce Col\u00adtra\u00adne, her use of the oscil\u00adla\u00adting harp or Wur\u00adlit\u00adzer organ, and her pre\u00addil\u00adec\u00adtion for the use of Indi\u00adan and Euro\u00adpean instru\u00adments such as vio\u00adlins. ( like in the orchestra\u00adti\u00adon of her album, Uni\u00adver\u00adsal Con\u00adscious\u00adness \u2018, 1971 or, Lord of Lords\u2019, 1972)<\/span><\/p>\n

I lis\u00adten to a lot of tra\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adnal Afri\u00adcan music from all over the con\u00adti\u00adnent, from the north like Gna\u00adwa or from Mali, Nige\u00adria, Sene\u00adgal, Bur\u00adki\u00adna Faso, .\u2026 tra\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adnal world music of Tuva, Bulgaria, ..<\/span><\/p>\n

Other main influen\u00adces are Char\u00adlie Par\u00adker, Illi\u00adnois Jacket, Eddie Lock Jaw Davis, Count Basie and of cour\u00adse, Les\u00adter Young.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you com\u00adpo\u00adse? What is the pro\u00adcess? Do your musi\u00adci\u00adans inter\u00adve\u00adne in the process?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The pro\u00adcess of com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon is always dif\u00adfe\u00adrent and, in a cer\u00adtain way, it is an open road. Some melo\u00addies come out on the sopra\u00adno saxo\u00adpho\u00adne, others on the tenor saxo\u00adpho\u00adne and others on the alto. Some\u00adti\u00admes I wri\u00adte music with the pia\u00adno, some\u00adti\u00admes I just wri\u00adte on the paper and then I check it on the instru\u00adment. I always choo\u00adse a tonal cen\u00adter that expres\u00adses well the emo\u00adti\u00adon of the song. Sin\u00adce the album \u2018Natu\u00adral Time\u2019 (2016) I have star\u00adted the com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon with the bass line. It suits me a lot, becau\u00adse for me the Groo\u00adve is very important in trans\u00admit\u00adting the mes\u00adsa\u00adge of the song.<\/span><\/p>\n

The com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons that are Ruba\u00adto (which are free of groo\u00adve) I start on the saxo\u00adpho\u00adne. I work a lot with Rado\u00admir in music throug\u00adhout the year and we make many decis\u00adi\u00adons tog\u00ade\u00adther. At the time of recor\u00adding I get into the stu\u00addio with my musi\u00adci\u00adans and Uros and Gina inter\u00adpret my idea of rhythm in a fan\u00adta\u00adstic way. But also some\u00adti\u00admes even while recor\u00adding, song struc\u00adtures can still chan\u00adge, accor\u00adding to the impul\u00adses of each one. The songs that somehow \u201ccall\u201d us all are the ones that we later may choo\u00adse for a live concert.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, I see that you have pre\u00adpared ano\u00adther album, which will be released in March 2019. Have you recor\u00added it yet?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Record Label RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> Records has pro\u00adpo\u00adsed to us the renow\u00adned record com\u00adpa\u00adny of United King\u00addom \u2018Jazz\u00adman\u2019 to make a release in 7\u2033 Vinyl for\u00admat, and make 600 copies. It\u2019s all finis\u00adhed, just miss\u00ading the vinyl press.<\/span><\/p>\n

But RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> Records also pro\u00adpo\u00adsed us to release ano\u00adther 12 \u201cvinyl by about April 2019. So as this past sum\u00admer we recor\u00added a lot, the songs have alre\u00ada\u00addy been cho\u00adsen. Only the dro\u00adne instru\u00adments are miss\u00ading, the mix, and the mas\u00adter on the musi\u00adcal side.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are very hap\u00adpy that RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> gives us this gre\u00adat oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty to express all our creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00adre are some other albums that are rea\u00addy to go, one with the gre\u00adat Aus\u00adtri\u00adan drum\u00admer Wolf\u00adgang Rei\u00adsin\u00adger, and also a gre\u00adat album dedi\u00adca\u00adted to Ornet\u00adte Cole\u00adman that I recor\u00added with Bar\u00adce\u00adlo\u00adna quartet.<\/span><\/p>\n

What will that new album be cal\u00adled? Will it be the same style as Gol\u00adden Rule or will it be different?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The names of the next two edi\u00adti\u00adons men\u00adtio\u00adned abo\u00adve I want to be a sur\u00adpri\u00adse for the time to come. The style is the same. But the\u00adre is ope\u00adning a way for a new pha\u00adse that will be reve\u00ada\u00adled at the right time. The first album is alre\u00ada\u00addy recor\u00added and will be released at the end of next year. The style is always evol\u00adving, always in move\u00adment, always trans\u00adforming, \u2026 as well as life, always in con\u00adstant change.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen on your web\u00adsite that you alre\u00ada\u00addy have con\u00adcerts for next year in Aus\u00adtria. Do you play a lot out\u00adside of Spain, out\u00adside of Ibiza?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

For each album that we have released we have made a tour to pre\u00adsent it. I feel for\u00adt\u00adu\u00adna\u00adte to have been able to open the 30th edi\u00adti\u00adon of Eivis\u00adsa Jazz, in Vara de Rey on August 31 of this year 2018 (https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MBGZCfM24oQ&<\/span>t=2333s) and to be able to play with regu\u00adla\u00adri\u00adty in the Balea\u00adric Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can see that with the RR<\/span> GEMS<\/span> Vinyl edi\u00adti\u00adon, our radi\u00adus of action has spread towards the United King\u00addom and the United Sta\u00adtes. The\u00adre is demand for us to play the\u00adre. I hope we can orga\u00adni\u00adze a tour in the\u00adse count\u00adries in the next 2 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are also dedi\u00adca\u00adted prac\u00adti\u00adtio\u00adners of clas\u00adsi\u00adcal jazz. We love play\u00ading music of Les\u00adter Young, Count Basie, Illi\u00adnois Jac\u00adquet, who are the bread and but\u00adter of our pro\u00adfes\u00adsi\u00adon, and we are very gra\u00adteful to be able to play that music and offer more than 140 con\u00adcerts a year play\u00ading clas\u00adsi\u00adcal jazz.<\/span><\/p>\n
