For me, for the past five years, Ibi\u00adza has been the place whe\u00adre a gre\u00adat musi\u00adci\u00adan, saxo\u00adpho\u00adnist and com\u00adpo\u00adser from Aus\u00adtria Muri\u00adel Gross\u00adman lives. Start\u00ading in 2015 I review\u00aded all of her works on our web\u00adsite, and I got a gre\u00adat oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty to fol\u00adlow the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of Muriel\u2019s work, which, undoub\u00adted\u00adly, went on expan\u00adding. Last year\u2019s Gol\u00adden Rule album (2018) see\u00admed to me the stron\u00adgest, and the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre the new Rever\u00adence pro\u00adject was of par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar interest.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: calibri; font-size: medium; color: #339966;\"><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>Awe\u201d \u2014 this is the name you can trans\u00adla\u00adte. Befo\u00adre what? The ans\u00adwer can be found both in music and in the words of Muri\u00adel hers\u00adelf: \u201cWhat is com\u00admon bet\u00adween jazz and Afri\u00adcan music and what makes this simi\u00adla\u00adri\u00adty so uni\u00adque is that in essence, as the stron\u00adgest part of foun\u00adda\u00adti\u00adon, every musi\u00adci\u00adan deals with a cer\u00adtain rhythm that con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtes to the who\u00adle, ther\u00adeby crea\u00adting mul\u00adti\u00addi\u00adrec\u00adtion\u00adal rhyth\u00adms, also known as poly\u00adrhythm. \u201d Yes, in a sen\u00adse, Rever\u00adence is a tri\u00adbu\u00adte to Afri\u00adcan music, and to Afri\u00adcan cul\u00adtu\u00adre in gene\u00adral. Gross\u00admann negle\u00adc\u00adted attempts to imi\u00adta\u00adte Afri\u00adcan rhyth\u00adms and methods of con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adting com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons, Rever\u00adence is, rather, the look of a Euro\u00adpean jazz musi\u00adci\u00adan on Afri\u00adca, a deep, atten\u00adti\u00adve and respectful look, which is espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly noti\u00adceable in pie\u00adces such as the ope\u00adning com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon <em>Okan Ti Aye<\/em>, <em>Tri\u00adbu<\/em> and Afri\u00adka <em>Maha\u00adla<\/em>. All this in its\u00adelf distin\u00adgu\u00adis\u00adhes the album from its pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsors, but in addi\u00adti\u00adon the sound of the ensem\u00adble its\u00adelf has changed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: calibri; font-size: medium; color: #339966;\">As in pre\u00advious works, next to Gross\u00adman, who uses three types of saxo\u00adpho\u00adnes here \u2014 sopra\u00adno, alto and tenor, we see her con\u00adstant part\u00adners: gui\u00adta\u00adrist Rado\u00admir Milo\u00adj\u00adko\u00advic, bas\u00adsist Gina Schwarz and drum\u00admer Uros Sta\u00admen\u00adko\u00advic. But the&nbsp;mal\u00adlor\u00adcas&nbsp;orga\u00adnist Loren\u00e7 Bar\u00adce\u00adlo also joi\u00adn\u00aded this Aus\u00adtro-Ser\u00adbi\u00adan team at Rever\u00adence, tur\u00adning the fami\u00adli\u00adar quar\u00adtet into a quin\u00adtet. Alre\u00ada\u00addy from the first track you under\u00adstand how this affec\u00adted the sound of the band, when the saxo\u00adpho\u00adne part Muri\u00adel Gross\u00adman finds a relia\u00adble sup\u00adport in the sound of the organ to the qua\u00adsi-Afri\u00adcan rhythm. In one of the best, for my tas\u00adte, album com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons, the lyri\u00adcal and phi\u00adlo\u00adso\u00adphi\u00adcal <em>Sun\u00addown<\/em>, Muriel\u2019s medi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adve solo also tru\u00adly bene\u00adfits from the organ back\u00adground. The appearance of Bar\u00adce\u00adlo natu\u00adral\u00adly redu\u00adced the num\u00adber of solo parts of Milo\u00adj\u00adko\u00advic, but not their qua\u00adli\u00adty. His gui\u00adtar, as usu\u00adal, is impec\u00adca\u00adble in <em>Water Bowl<\/em>, <em>Cha\u00adse<\/em>, <em>Afri\u00adka Maha\u00adla<\/em>, and in addi\u00adti\u00adon, the gui\u00adtar-organ inter\u00adac\u00adtion also brings new colors and pos\u00adsi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties to the sound. But Muri\u00adel hers\u00adelf is true to hers\u00adelf. Her play\u00ading is still unu\u00adsual\u00adly emo\u00adtio\u00adnal and impec\u00adca\u00adble in tech\u00adni\u00adque. Depen\u00adding on what instru\u00adment she uses in a par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar pie\u00adce, I recal\u00adled, while lis\u00adtening to her&nbsp;play\u00ading&nbsp; such ico\u00adnic names as Way\u00adne Shorter or Jane Ira Bloom. An exam\u00adp\u00adle of her skill as a saxo\u00adpho\u00adnist are com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons such as <em>Uni\u00adon<\/em>, <em>Sun\u00addown<\/em> and <em>Afri\u00adka Maha\u00adla<\/em>, whe\u00adre the saxo\u00adpho\u00adne enters into a dia\u00adlo\u00adgue with its\u00adelf. As for Gross\u00admann, the com\u00adpo\u00adser, the Afri\u00adcan sound of the album ser\u00adved as a new chall\u00adenge for her, with which she coped quite suc\u00adcessful\u00adly. In a word, Rever\u00adence marks a defi\u00adni\u00adte turn in the search for this very talen\u00adted per\u00adfor\u00admer and composer.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: calibri; font-size: medium; color: #339966;\">Like the pre\u00advious album, Rever\u00adence was released by the Esto\u00adni\u00adan label <span class=\"caps\">RR<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">GEM<\/span> Records, this time in <span class=\"caps\">2LP<\/span> for\u00admat. On four vinyl sides, two com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons were fit on each \u2014 long, detail\u00aded, mul\u00adti\u00adface\u00adted com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons, with an&nbsp;exten\u00added&nbsp;sound, of nine to ele\u00adven minu\u00adte each.
